DoD Wants Commercial Accounting and Deeper Cost Transparency—Can Contractors Realistically Deliver Both?

DoD is moving toward GAAP and away from government-unique Cost Accounting Standards while simultaneously seeking deeper contractor and supplier cost transparency. Those objectives may conflict because commercial accounting does not necessarily produce traditional government cost detail. Contractors should monitor implementation and reassess accounting systems, pricing support, audit exposure, and cost-data capabilities.
